【臨江閣】RINKO-KAKU “茶室”プロジェクト2021
ごあいさつ
この度、群馬県前橋市にある国指定の重要指定文化財「臨江閣」(明治天皇のための迎賓館) の”茶室”(明治17年竣工)にて、「臨江閣【茶室】プロジェクト 2021」を開催いたします。
このプロジェクトは、日本文化と欧州文化との融合から、国際交流の視野にたった “小さな国際美術展” を示唆するプロジェクトとして 2019 年からスタート致しました。
海外のアーティストと日本人のアーティストの作品を交えることで、その共通性と差異、普遍性を見出し、新たな価値観と視点を発見する事、また４日間の会期中に一般参加者とゲストを招いて毎年異なったイベントを行うことで、文化を通したコミュニケーションを行うことを目標にしています。
【茶室】という静寂に満ちた日本の古典的な文化建築、日欧の作家が生み出した現代美術作品、各年度ごとに行われる参加イベント、この３つの融合から新たな美意識を創造する試みです。 これまでの 2019 年展、2020 年展では、日本の古典的で静寂に満ちた茶室建築の中で行われる “現代美術展” と共に、参加アーティストと一般鑑賞者、ゲスト作家が交流する「茶会」「トークショー」を開催し新しい文化交流の在り方を提案してきました。
今年度で3年目を迎える「臨江閣【茶室】プロジェクト 2021」展は、2020 年展に引き続き、日本 = ハンガリー友好１５０周年のアニバーサリーと紐づけてハンガリーを中心に活動 するキュレーター Pintér Gábor( ピンテール・ガボール ) 氏の協力の元、４名の海外アーティストに加え日本人アーティスト２名によって構成されます。また、前橋市の有する国指定の文化財である臨江閣の建築や歴史的な価値を再検討し、若い世代や海外の方に群馬の「臨江閣」という文化財に触れていただくことも大きな目的の一つです。そして今年度新たな展開として、茶室空間によって作用する「音楽」との融合を目指します。 本来茶室に宿る茶道の美意識とは総合芸術とも評されています。臨江閣【茶室】プロジェクトは「美術」「建築」「音楽」を同列に設置し、その三つを通して現代の総合芸術を創造することを試みます。また、人と人との交流が難しいこのコロナ禍で、作品を通して世界を繋ぎ、新型コロナウィルスと共存した展覧会のあり方の可能性を探ります。
会場の茶室空間に実際に足をお運びいただき、それぞれの作家が設える「美術作品」とゲストの音楽家が奏でる「現代音楽」、そして臨江閣の「茶室建築」を体験し、その融合から披露される一つの美意識をご堪能いただければと思います。
このプロジェクトは臨江閣【茶室】プロジェクト事務局として、アーティストの宮﨑優花・ 福田周平により企画・運営されています。

The "RINKO-KAKU [Tea Room] Project 2021" shall be held at the "tea room" (completed in the 17th year of Meiji (1884)) of "RINKO-KAKU" (a reception hall for the Meiji Emperor), which is a government-designated important cultural property in Maebashi City, Gunma.
This project was started in 2019 as a project to promote a "small international art exhibition" in the field of international exchange, through the fusion of Japanese and European culture.
By combining the works of foreign and Japanese artists, the aim is to discover the similarities, differences, and universality of these artists, and discover new values and perspectives. Another goal is communication through culture, and this shall be achieved by inviting the general public and guests to the four-day exhibition and making it a different event each year.
The project is an attempt to create a new sense of beauty through the fusion of three elements: the highly tranquil classical Japanese cultural architecture of the teahouse; the Japanese and European contemporary art works; and the events in which people can participate held each year.
In the 2019 and 2020 exhibitions, we proposed new forms of cultural exchange. This was achieved by holding a "contemporary art exhibition" in a classical Japanese teahouse filled with tranquility, as well as a "tea ceremony" and a "talk show" in which participating artists, the general public, and guest creators were able to interact with each other.
The "RINKO-KAKU [Tea Room] Project 2021" marks the 3rd year of the project, and continuing on from 2020, and linked to the 150th anniversary of friendship between Japan and Hungary and with the cooperation of Pintér Gábor, a curator who is active in Hungary, it shall consist of four overseas artists and two Japanese artists. An additional main objective of the project is to re-examine the architectural and historical value of Maebashi's RINKO-KAKU, a national cultural asset, and to introduce people from a younger generation and foreign visitors to the cultural assets of Gunma. Moreover, we aim to fuse the exhibition with the effects of the "music" within the tearoom space, as a new development this year.
The sense of beauty found in the tea ceremony, which originally resides in the tea room, can also be described as a comprehensive art form. The RINKO-KAKU [Tea room] Project 2021 aims to create a comprehensive art form for the modern age by placing the three elements of "art", "architecture", and "music" on the same level. Further, in this situation where it is difficult for people to interact due to COVID-19, we will use this opportunity to explore the possibility of holding exhibitions in coexistence with the coronavirus and use these works to connect the world.
We hope that you will visit the tea room area and experience the "works of art" created by the artists, the "contemporary music" played by the guest musicians, and the "tea room architecture" of RINKO-KAKU, and enjoy the unique aesthetic experience exposed by this fusion.
This project is planned and managed by the artists Yuka Miyazaki and Shuhei Fukuda in the office of the RINKO-KAKU [Tea Room] Project.

In 2021, two events are organised in Japan as part of the long-term cooperation between CONCEPT SPACE (JP) and Parallel Art Foundation (HU): a site-specific exhibition in the historical Rinko-Kaku Tea House in Maebashi City, Gunma and a group show at AIS Gallery in Shibukawa City, Gunma.
The two organisations started to work together in 2019, when the exhibition Fine Matters and the 51st Győr Artist Residency Program took place at Rómer Flóris Museum of Art and History in Győr, Hungary. These were followed by the first Rinko-Kaku【Tea Room】 Project in 2020.
This November, Rinko-Kaku Tea House challenges again invited artists to get in dialogue with a space full of symbols, references and history, in a 130-year-old building complex, built by Motohiko Katori (1829-1912), the first governor of Gunma.
Exhibited artworks are dealing with the question of opposite senses, the relation of the whole and segment, the transition and transformation of materials, as well as the symbiosis of geometric and organic forms. The minimalist and delicate approach, the usage of few materials and colours and the respect of the sacred space characterise the exhibition. The soft and hard, flat and plastic monochrome objects of Viktória Körösi, the yes-no, right-wrong shaped canvas sculpture of Árpád Forgó, the annihilation-creation ash works of Yuka Miyazaki, the floating paper installation of Linda Carrara, the fragile construction of Shuhei Fukuda, the video work of Yuki Shiraishi, all unite with the ceremonial rooms of Rinko-Kaku. The artworks and installations created for this special occasion are to be discovered from different angles, so they motivate the viewer to move, as well as to find the right spot to contemplate.

特記： 【茶室】とは、日本式の茶道において、茶事の主宰者である亭主が客を招きもてなすこと、亭主の精神の昇華のためにしつらえられる 宇宙空間です。「お茶を飲む」という行為のために建築される大変贅沢な茶室という場は、ただお茶を嗜むことだけに使われてきたのではなく、その茶室の亭主が一服の茶を介してもてなされる客に、自身の美意識を披露しそして心を通わせる場として機能していた”日本特有の美祭” とも言われています。また、招かれた客自身もその「お茶」に宿る薬用と美意識を飲み干し体内を浄化させる。そのような状況に内包する人々を促す作用を【茶室の宇宙感】が持ち合わせているようにも思います。そしてその小宇宙には「お茶を嗜む」ことに必要な精神的機能の全てが揃っているのです。「道具・人・空間」この三つが揃う茶室により生まれる美意識は日本人が潜在的に持っている、まさしく「日常の中の美」の源流が宿っています。

[Tea room] is a space that can be prepared for the sublimation of the spirit of the lord of the tea ceremony. A very luxurious tea house that is built for the act of drinking tea has not been used only for tasting tea, but is a guest that is served by a teacup of the tea room. It is also said to be a “Japanese-specific beauty festival” that served as a place to show off its own sense of beauty and communicate. In addition, the invited customers themselves purify their bodies by drinking and drinking the medicinal and aesthetic sensations in the “tea”. I think [teahouse space sense] has the effect of encouraging people in such a situation. And the microcosm has all the mental functions necessary to “taste tea”. The beauty consciousness born by the tea room where all three are “tools, people, and space” has the source of “beauty in everyday life”.

臨江閣【茶室】プロジェクトとは 臨江閣【茶室】プロジェクトは、
群馬県前橋市にあります国指定の重要指定文化財「臨江閣」(明治天皇のための迎賓館)の”茶室”(明治17年竣工)にて、“小さな国際現代美術展” を開催するプロジェクトとし 2019 年からスタート致しました。 このプロジェクトは海外のアーティストと日本人のアーティストを交えることで、その差異と普遍性を出し、新たな価値観と視点を発見する事、また 4 日間の会期中に一般参加者とゲストを招いて毎年異なったイベントを行うことで、文化を通したコミュニケーションを行うことを目標にしています。【茶室】という静寂に満ちた日本の古典的な文化建築、日欧の作家が生み出した現代美術作品、各年度ごとに行われる参加イベント、この 3 つの融合から新たな美意識を創造する試みです。このプロジェクトは臨江閣【茶室】プロジェクト事務局として、アーティストの宮﨑優花・福田周平により企画・運営されて います。
２） 日本と欧州の作家たち(約 11 点の作品)
臨江閣の【茶室】プロジェクトに参加する 6 名のアーティストは、「茶室」という象徴的で豊かな歴史ある空間との対話を言及することに挑戦します。それぞれに異なるベースをもつ各5カ国(ハンガリー・イタリア・オーストリア・スイス・日本)の作家により、このプロジェクトのために制作された、彫刻・絵画・映像などの多彩な作品は静寂に満ちた秋の茶室空間と呼応します。それらの作品は 11 月の茶室の光の中で、鑑賞者が自由に移動して鑑賞することで新たな発見や解釈を生み出します。

会場である “国指定重要文化財”「臨江閣」の建築
会場である “国指定重要文化財”「臨江閣」は明治17年に竣工された明治天皇のための迎賓館です。数寄屋造りの建築工法に加え、鉄製の釘を使わない木組み工法で建てられた群馬県の象徴的な建造物であり、 歴史的には文化の発信地としても機能していました。
2020 年のプロジェクトでは、臨江閣の修繕を行った「左官職人」である鈴木信之さんをお招きしてトークショーを開催し建築や修繕技術についてお話いただき一般鑑賞者と共に意見を交換しました。このように、古来の建築技術を見直すことで「臨江閣」という建築について再考を測る試みも行っております。
展覧会会場である臨江閣の【茶室】通常時は一般公開されていませんが、展覧会時は建築の内部に入って作品と共に茶室建築も体験いただけることも大きな魅力の一つです。

オルタナティブスペースとしての茶室
従来美術展の行われてきた美術家やギャラリーでの展覧会ではなく【茶室】をオルタナティブスペースとして使用することで、美術作品と空間の関係性について試行しています。
【茶室】という伝統ある空間で展示することでそれぞれの作品に生まれる新しい概念について考察します。

多様な鑑賞者 会場である臨江閣は前橋公園や群馬県庁、遊園地のるなぱーくなどに隣接しており、多様な人々が集まる場所となっています。また NHK の大河ドラマ「花もゆ」で全国的に認知された場所でもあります。美術館やギャラリーなどとは異なり、一般的な美術ファンが訪れるのみならず、 建築愛好家、文化財研究家などの専門教養人から、県内外の高齢者のツーリストや県内の中学、 高等学校生、小さな子供づれの親子などと多岐に渡ります。 普段現代美術に親の無い方々にまだまだ地方では認知度の低い美術の体験の窓口になることを目指します。
会期中は常時 2 名のスタッフが、作品についての解説やご案内をいたします。

この「臨江閣【茶室】プロジェクト」(2019年〜2022年)のカタログ・マルティプル集で得られた義捐金は「新型コロナウイルス感染症 (COVID-19)」と10年目の「東日本 大震災」で “世帯主を亡くした日本の子どもたちの奨学金” として寄付されます。
二つの緊急事態に見舞われた稀有な社会情勢の中で、美術の機能と役割を再考し、微力ながら社会支援の一助になればと思います。

関連イベントの演奏会 臨江閣【茶室】プロジェクトでは毎年異なったイベントを開催してまいりました。2021 年は音楽との融合を試み、「演奏会」を開催いたします。演奏会は [ 第一部 ] と [ 第二部 ] の 2 日間に渡り開催されます。 [ 第一部 ] は打楽器奏者の『茶木修平』による演奏です。現代音楽の巨匠であるジョン・ケージ作品を中心とした演目を披露します。また茶木修平によるジョンケージへのオマージュ作品やなど全6曲を披露します。 [ 第二部 ] はアルト・サックス奏者で即興家の『徳永将豪』サウンドパフォーマンスです。 展覧会会場の空気やその日の鑑賞者と呼応するこの臨江閣【茶室】プロジェクトだけのパフォーマンスを披露します。

Charity project
An exhibition as a "charity project" that has two meanings: "COVID-19", which is spreading worldwide, and "Great East Japan Earthquake", which is the 10th anniversary of the exhibition in March 2021. We are accepting sales of multiple collections and catalogs containing special catalogs and limited works of each artist. We also accept reservations and purchases at the same time.

＊本展覧会のタイトルは、
モダンダンスのパイオニアである、マーサ グレアムが提唱した「収縮と解放」から着想
しています。 1920年代当時のモダンアートを反映したとされる彼女のスタイルは、人間の 基本的な
動きを繰り返すことから“感情的な衝動”が非常に重要なコンセプトになりました。
作品を繰り返し展示することで、作品の一部分にリズミカルなエネルギーが与えられる
ブレインストーミングのアイデアです。 COVID-19の流行が大きく世界を変え、流行前の社会に完全に戻ることはもはや不可能か
もしれない状況の中で、“共存”と”開放”が求められるきっかけとなる展覧会を考えます。

＊ The title of this exhibition is inspired by "contraction and liberation" advocated
by Martha Graham, a pioneer of modern dance.
Her style, which is said to reflect modern art in the 1920s, has become a very important
concept of "emotional impulse" because it repeats the basic movements of human beings.
A brainstorming idea that gives rhythmic energy to a part of her work by repeatedly
exhibiting her work.
In a situation where the COVID-19 epidemic has changed the world and it may no longer
be possible to completely return to the pre-epidemic society, we will consider an exhibition
that will trigger the need for "coexistence" and "openness."。
