CONCEPT SPACEとR2における238番目のプロジェクト、2025年インターナショナル・アーティスト・シリーズ第3弾を開催いたします。

「ティルマン」ー 句 1 ー　（ TILMAN    ー PASSAGE 1 ー ）

ティルマン・ホエフル（通称ティルマン）は、主にイタリアを拠点に国際的に活躍するアーティストで、ヨーロッパ、アメリカ、オーストラリアなど各地で展覧会を開催しています。彼の多様な作品は、従来の平面絵画の枠を超え、木やアルミニウムといった表面の物質性を探求する立体的なフォルムやインスタレーションを織り交ぜています。

ティルマンの作品は、「絵画の平面」に対する従来の認識に挑戦しています。素材本来の特性に着想を得た独特の平面作品を発表することで、鑑賞者は作品の表面だけでなく、縁や側面にも目を向けるよう促されます。これらの要素は、壁や床に展示された際に周囲の環境と独特な調和を見せ、作品と空間の間に魅力的な相互作用を生み出します。

彼の鮮やかな色彩と造形は、しばしば周囲の壁に色彩を映し出し、絵画と彫刻の境界を曖昧にする現象を生み出します。この二重性は、鑑賞者に、作品の色彩、形態、あるいは塗られた面と向き合う前に、まず作品が空間の中でどのように存在しているのか、つまり壁や床にどのように存在しているのかを深く考えさせます。その結果、色彩そのものの表現力を探る静かな行為を呼び起こす、全く新しい鑑賞スタイルが生まれます。

本展では、ティルマンはCONCEPT SPACEとR2という2つの異なる空間のために特別に制作された新作シリーズを発表します。特にCONCEPT SPACEでは、伝統的な畳に座りながら作品と触れ合うという稀有な機会を提供し、日本の現代アートを体験する、他に類を見ない没入型の体験を提供します。

Exhibition Announcement

We are pleased to announce the 238th project at CONCEPT SPACE and R2, presented as the third installment in our 2025 International Artist Series:

“Tilman”　　ー PASSAGE 1 ー

Tilman, known simply as Tilman, is an internationally active artist based primarily in Italy, with exhibitions spanning Europe, the United States, and Australia. His diverse body of work extends beyond the traditional boundaries of two-dimensional painting, incorporating three-dimensional forms and installations that explore the materiality of surfaces such as wood and aluminum.

Tilman’s practice challenges conventional perceptions of the “picture plane.” By presenting distinctive flat works that are motivated by the inherent qualities of his materials, he invites viewers to see not only the surface but also the edges and sides of his works. These elements—when displayed on walls or floors—blend uniquely with their surroundings, creating an engaging interplay between artwork and space.

His vivid use of color and shaped surfaces often results in reflected hues on the surrounding walls, giving rise to phenomena that blur the line between painting and sculpture. This duality compels viewers to first consider how the work exists in space—how it inhabits the wall or the floor—before engaging with its color, form, or painted surface. The result is an entirely new mode of viewing that evokes the quiet act of seeking out the expressive power of color itself.

For this exhibition, Tilman will present a series of new works specially created for the two distinct spaces of CONCEPT SPACE and R2. In particular, CONCEPT SPACE will offer a rare opportunity to engage with the works while seated on traditional tatami mats, offering a unique and immersive way to experience contemporary art in Japan.
